H W Wilson raise thousands on their Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walk!

H W Wilson has long been known to support local organisations and teams, sponsoring and taking part in charitable events but this year we thought we would go one better and organise our very own event. The Alzheimer’s Society ‘Memory Walk 2016’ programme has been a great way to highlight the needs of so many people, helping raise much needed funds for the charity, and seemed a wonderful way to remember one of our own. Our current managing Director Peter Wiffen, was convinced that as a company we could generate support for our very own walk in memory of Peter Wilson, the long term managing Director of H W Wilson Ltd, and grandson of the original founder. We were delighted by the response of work colleagues both past and present who remembered Peter Wilson, and friends and family members promised to help. On Saturday 8 October we had 30 walkers taking part in an eleven and a half mile trek around the West of our borough, starting and finishing at the centrally located St Thomas’ Church in Grays, heading across to the company’s ‘spiritual home’ of South Ockendon. We took the opportunity to stop at various establishments on the way, and must pay special thanks to our friends at Thurrock Garden Centre who gave us a warm welcome for our pre organised lunch at the halfway point. We are very proud to announce that following receipt of all sponsor forms we are able to pledge a massive £3,307.50p to the Alzheimer’s Society. Thank you to all of those who took part, and especially to all of those who gave so generously both on the forms, and in the collection buckets on the day. Despite blisters and aching muscles, the pictures show we made it a fun day all round;
